Barriers to Employment
Employers often use arbitrary and overbroad criteria when making hiring decisions about clients with criminal records. Many times, this results in a person who is otherwise qualified being denied employment. NPLS helps such clients by getting eligible criminal and juvenile records expunged. For other cases, we provide advice and representation to people who need a pardon to clean up their record. In addition, we provide advice to and advocate on behalf of clients who are unfairly denied employment. For individuals seeking to get their driver’s license restored we provide advice on the steps needed to restore their driving privileges. Direct contact and communication with the employer is often the most effective means to overcome this barrier. Another valuable method is our ability to reach out to the community.
