The Commission enforces the human relations ordinance, which prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, real estate and public accommodations against the federally protected classes and on the basis of age or marital status. In addition, the Commission endeavors to foster good will among different groups in the community. The Commission accepts and investigates complaints of discrimination, and attempts to mediate them. If mediation is unsuccessful, the case goes to a public hearing.
